Pocahontas County, West Virginia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 9131. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8472, making it West Virginia's eighth smallest county. It has total area of 941.85 square miles (2439.38 square kilometre), of which, 940.29 square miles (2435.34 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.56 square miles (4.04 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the third largest by total area among West Virginia's county.

As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8472, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 8306 White, 89 Black or African American, 6 American Indian, 13 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 58 from two or more races.
