Plumas County is a county in the United States of California. It is home to over 20824 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 20275, It is the eighth smallest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 2613.48 sq mi (6768.88 sq km ), of which, 2553.69 square miles (6614.03 sq km) of it is land and 59.78 square miles (154.83 sq km) of it is water, it is the 22nd largest by area in the U.S. state of California.

The population density was 8.2 people per square mile (3.17/kmē), making it the ninth least densely populated county in California. There were 13386 housing units at an average density of 5.2 per square mile (2.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.29 people, and the average family size was 2.77 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 6% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.9 males. Its population was estimated at 20275 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 18819 White, 202 Black or African American, 574 American Indian, 158 Asian, 21 Native Hawaiian, and 501 from two or more races.
