It is spread over 689.08 sq mi (1784.71 kmē), of which, 678.07 square miles (1756.19 kmē ) of it is land and 11.01 square miles (28.52 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 41st largest by total area among Nebraska's county. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.
