Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana is a parish of the United States of Louisiana. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Plaquemines Parish is home to 26757 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 21276, giving it the 43rd largest population among Louisiana's parish. The parish comprises an area of 2428.54 sq mi (6289.89 kmē), of which, 844.56 square miles (2187.4 kmē) of it is land and 1583.98 square miles (4102.49 kmē) of it is water, it is the largest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.

The population density was 31.7 people per square mile (12.24/kmē), giving it the 21st least densely populated parish among the Louisiana. There were 10481 housing units at an average density of 12.4 per square mile (4.79/kmē). The average household size was 2.89 people, and the average family size was 3.3 people. In the parish the population was spread out, with 29.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 21276, The racial makeup of the parish was 71.19% White, 21.85% Black or African American, 2.44% American Indian, 3.01% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.49% from two or more races.
