Pittsylvania County is a county located in Virginia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 61745 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 61123, It is the 30th largest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 978.18 square miles (2533.47 kmē), of which, 970.76 square miles (2514.26 kmē) of it is land and 7.42 square miles (19.22 kmē) of it is water, it is the second largest by area in the U.S. state of Virginia.
