As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 28297, It is 37th most populous county in Minnesota. The county extends throughout a territory of 1434.57 miē (3715.52 kmē ), of which, 1411.04 square miles (3654.58 kmē) of it is land and 23.52 square miles (60.92 kmē) of it is water, making it Minnesota's 15th largest county by total area.
