Pike County is a county located in Mississippi, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. Pike County had an official population of 38940 in 2000. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 39961, It is Mississippi's 19th most populous county. The county has a total area of 410.78 sq mi (1063.92 square kilometre), of which, 408.89 square miles (1059.02 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.89 square miles (4.9 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the seventh smallest by total area among Mississippi's county.

The population density was 95.2 people per square mile (36.76/kmē), making its Mississippi's 11th most densely populated county. There were 16720 housing units at an average density of 40.9 per square mile (15.79/kmē). The average household size was 2.57 people, and the average family size was 3.12 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 113.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 120.2 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 39961, The racial makeup of the county was 19829 White, 19646 Black or African American, 94 American Indian, 157 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 230 from two or more races.
