Pike County is a one of the county from Indiana's 92 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 12837 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 12569, making it Indiana's eighth smallest county. It is spread over 341.08 square miles (883.39 kmē), of which, 336.18 square miles (870.7 kmē ) of it is land and 4.91 square miles (12.72 kmē) of it is water, making it Indiana's 22nd smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12837 people in the county, organized into 5119 households, and 3682 families residing in the county. The population density was 38.2 people per square mile (14.75/kmē), it is the seventh least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Indiana. There were 5611 housing units at an average density of 16.7 per square mile (6.45/kmē). The average household size was 2.47 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 12569, The racial makeup of the county was 12405 White, 59 Black or African American, 16 American Indian, 21 Asian, 6 Native Hawaiian, and 62 from two or more races.
