Pike County is a United States county located in the United States of Illinois. It is home to over 17384 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 16519, It is the 67th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Illinois. The county comprises an area of 848.87 sq mi (2198.56 square kilometre), of which, 830.3 square miles (2150.47 square kilometre) of it is land and 18.57 square miles (48.1 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 15th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.

The population density was 20.9 people per square mile (8.07/kmē), it would be the seventh least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Illinois. There were 8011 housing units at an average density of 9.6 per square mile (3.71/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 101.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 104.9 females. Its population was estimated at 16519 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 16092 White, 236 Black or African American, 31 American Indian, 49 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 106 from two or more races.
