Pike County is a county located in Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. It is home to over 29605 people (2000 census). Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 30381, It is the 37th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Alabama. The county extends throughout a territory of 672.1 square miles (1740.73 sq km ), of which, 671.03 square miles (1737.96 sq km) of it is land and 1.06 square miles (2.75 sq km) of it is water, it is the 35th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 44.1 people per square mile (17.03/kmē), it is 36th most densely populated county in Alabama. There were 13981 housing units at an average density of 20.8 per square mile (8.03/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.38 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 15.8% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 30381, The racial makeup of the county was 60.22% White, 36.81% Black or African American, 0.68% American Indian, 0.87% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.39% from two or more races.
