Pierre City is a city in the Hughes County, South Dakota, United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 13876 as per the Census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 13899, giving it the seventh largest population among South Dakota. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.03 sq mi (33.75 sq km), of which, 13.02 square miles (33.72 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth largest by area in the U.S. state of South Dakota.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 13876 residents, 5567 households, and 3576 families in the city. The population density was 1065.8 people per square mile (411.51/kmē), it would be the 89th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of South Dakota. There were 5949 housing units at an average density of 456.9 per square mile (176.41/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.96. In the city the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 110.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 117.1 females. The median age of the city's population was 37.6 years, The median age of males was 36.4 years, for females the median age was 38.5 years. The racial makeup of the city was 12337 White, 28 Black or African American, 1188 American Indian, 64 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, 216 from two or more races and 40 Ohter races.
