In July 2008, its estimated population was 4091, It is the 27th largest county by population in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county comprises an area of 1082.16 miē (2802.78 kmē), of which, 1017.82 square miles (2636.14 kmē) of it is land and 64.34 square miles (166.64 kmē) of it is water, making it the 36th largest by size in North Dakota. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in North Dakota.
