Phelps County is one of the 93 county of Nebraska, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 9747 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 9127, It is the 31st largest county by population in the U.S. state of Nebraska. Its area is just over 540.6 square miles (1400.15 kmē), of which, 539.97 square miles (1398.52 kmē) of it is land and 0.64 square miles (1.66 kmē) of it is water, making it Nebraska's 20th smallest county by total area.
