Phelps County is a county located in the United States of Missouri. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 39825 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 42205, It is the 24th most populous county in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county comprises an area of 674.28 square miles (1746.38 sq km), of which, 672.85 square miles (1742.67 sq km) of it is land and 1.43 square miles (3.7 sq km) of it is water, it is the 39th largest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 42205, The racial makeup of the county was 93.61% White, 2.1% Black or African American, 0.65% American Indian, 1.95% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 1.62% from two or more races.
