Petroleum County is a United States county located in the United States of Montana. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Petroleum County is home to 493 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 436 in July 2008, It is the smallest in terms of population. The county has a total area of 1674.01 sq mi (4335.67 sq km), of which, 1653.9 square miles (4283.58 sq km) of it is land and 20.11 square miles (52.08 sq km) of it is water, it is the 15th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Montana.
