Petersburg City, Wrangell-Petersburg Census Area, Alaska is a city located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. Petersburg City had an official population of 3224 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2825, giving it the 26th largest population among Alaska. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 46.04 mi˛ (119.24 square kilometre), of which, 43.86 square miles (113.6 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.18 square miles (5.65 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 122nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Alaska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3224 residents, 1240 households, and 850 families in the city. The population density was 73.5 people per square mile (28.38/km˛), making its Alaska's 81st most densely populated city. There were 1367 housing units at an average density of 31.2 per square mile (12.05/km˛). The average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.11 persons. In the Petersburg City, 29.8% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.2% were 18 to 24, 30.6% were 25 to 44, 24.6% were 45 to 64, and 8.8% who were 65 or older.
