Peru City is a United States city located in the La Salle County, Illinois, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 9835 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 9810, It is the 208th most populous in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.05 square miles (15.67 kmē), of which, 5.94 square miles (15.38 kmē) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 176th largest by total area in Illinois.

The racial makeup of the city was 96.47% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 0.18% American Indian, 1.11% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, 0.75% from two or more races and 1.16% Other races.
