Person County is a county in the United States of North Carolina. The population of the county was 35623 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 37438 in July 2008, making it North Carolina's 63rd largest county. It is spread over 404.09 mi˛ (1046.59 square kilometre), of which, 392.31 square miles (1016.08 square kilometre ) of it is land and 11.78 square miles (30.51 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 33rd smallest by size in North Carolina.


As of the census of 2000, there were 35623 people in the county, organized into 14085 households, and 10115 families residing in the county. The population density was 90.8 people per square mile (35.06/km˛), it is 55th most densely populated county in North Carolina. There were 15504 housing units at an average density of 39.5 per square mile (15.25/km˛). The average household size was 2.5 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 37438, The racial makeup of the county was 26382 White, 10406 Black or African American, 237 American Indian, 74 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 334 from two or more races.
