Pershing County, Nevada


Pershing County is a county located in the United States of Nevada. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 6693 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 6291, giving it the 11th largest population among Nevada's county. Its area is just over 6067.55 square miles (15714.88 kmē), of which, 6036.56 square miles (15634.62 kmē) of it is land and 30.99 square miles (80.26 kmē) of it is water, makes it the eighth largest by total area in Nevada. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Nevada.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6693 people, 1962 households, and 1383 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.1 people per square mile (0.42/kmē), giving it the fifth least densely populated county among the Nevada. There were 2389 housing units at an average density of 0.4 per square mile (0.15/kmē). The average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.22 persons. In the Pershing County, 25.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.5% were 18 to 24, 36% were 25 to 44, 22.1% were 45 to 64, and 7.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 158.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 182.1 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 6291, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 5444 White, 368 Black or African American, 271 American Indian, 42 Asian, 15 Native Hawaiian, and 151 from two or more races.
