Perry County is a county located in Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 11861 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 10643 in July 2008, giving it the second smallest population among Alabama's county. The county comprises an area of 724.08 square miles (1875.36 kmē), of which, 719.48 square miles (1863.44 kmē) of it is land and 4.59 square miles (11.89 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 30th largest by total area among Alabama's county.

The population density was 16.5 people per square mile (6.37/kmē), making it the fourth least densely populated county in Alabama. There were 5406 housing units at an average density of 7.5 per square mile (2.9/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.63 persons, and the average family size was 3.23 persons. In the Perry County, 29.8% of the population was under the age of 18, 11.1% were 18 to 24, 23.6% were 25 to 44, 20.7% were 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.4 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10643, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3317 White, 7226 Black or African American, 11 American Indian, 7 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 78 from two or more races.
