Perquimans County, North Carolina


Perquimans County is a one of the county from North Carolina's 100 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 11368. Its population was estimated at 12856 in July 2008, making it the tenth least populous county in North Carolina. It is spread over 328.93 square miles (851.92 kmē), of which, 247.17 square miles (640.17 kmē ) of it is land and 81.76 square miles (211.76 kmē) of it is water, it is the 21st smallest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11368 people, 4645 households, and 3378 families living in the county. The population density was 46 people per square mile (17.76/kmē), making its North Carolina's 16th least densely populated county. There were 6043 housing units at an average density of 24.4 per square mile (9.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.86. Age range in the county was well distributed with 23% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 12856, The racial makeup of the county was 73.55% White, 25.31% Black or African American, 0.16% American Indian, 0.19% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.72% from two or more races.
