Perkins County is a one of the county from South Dakota's 66 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 3363 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 2900 in July 2008, It is the 19th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of South Dakota. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2890.71 mi˛ (7486.9 square kilometre), of which, 2871.62 square miles (7437.46 square kilometre) of it is land and 19.09 square miles (49.44 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the second largest by total area in South Dakota.

It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 2900, The racial makeup of the county was 2787 White, 5 Black or African American, 74 American Indian, 7 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 27 from two or more races.
