Pennsylvania is one of the state of United States, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 12281054. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the state is 12448279, It is the sixth largest by population in the U.S. state of America. The state spans an area of 46055.24 square miles (119282.52 square kilometre), of which, 44816.61 square miles (116074.49 square kilometre) of it is land and 1238.63 square miles (3208.04 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 33rd largest by area in the U.S. state of America.
As of the census of 2000, there were 12281054 people, 4777003 households, and 3208388 families residing in the state. The population density was 274 people per square mile (105.79/kmē), making it the tenth most densely populated state in United States. There were 5249750 housing units at an average density of 117.1 per square mile (45.21/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 3.04 persons. The population's age distribution was 23.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males. The median age is 38 years, The median age of males and females living in Pennsylvania was 36.5 and 39.4 years respectively. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 12281054, The racial makeup of the state was 85.37% White, 9.97% Black or African American, 0.15% American Indian, 1.79% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, 1.16% from two or more races and 1.53% Other races.

In 2000, 3135934 pupils and students, of which 1571072 are male and 1564862 are female, 25.53% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, total enrollment of student are in, 203934 nursery or pri school, 159146 kindergarten, 1379671 elementary school, 690020 high school and 703163 College graduate school.
