Pendleton County, West Virginia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Pendleton County had an official population of 8196 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 7582, giving it the seventh smallest population among West Virginia's county. The county spans an area of 698.15 miē (1808.2 kmē), of which, 697.87 square miles (1807.48 kmē) of it is land and 0.28 square miles (0.73 kmē) of it is water, makes it the fifth largest by total area in West Virginia.

The population density was 11.7 people per square mile (4.52/kmē), it is West Virginia's second least densely populated county. There were 5102 housing units at an average density of 7.3 per square mile (2.82/kmē). The average household size was 2.4 people, and the average family size was 2.87 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 21.8% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 7582, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 7264 White, 204 Black or African American, 23 American Indian, 18 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 70 from two or more races.
