Pender County is a United States county located in the United States of North Carolina. As of 2000 the population was 41082. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 51314, making it North Carolina's 52nd largest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 932.64 sq mi (2415.53 kmē), of which, 870.67 square miles (2255.02 kmē) of it is land and 61.97 square miles (160.5 kmē) of it is water, making it the ninth largest by size in North Carolina.

The population density was 47.2 people per square mile (18.22/kmē), it would be the 18th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 51314, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 40557 White, 9860 Black or African American, 248 American Indian, 193 Asian, 19 Native Hawaiian, and 437 from two or more races.
