As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 57466, It is the 12th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The county spans an area of 818.93 sq mi (2121.02 kmē), of which, 811.33 square miles (2101.34 kmē) of it is land and 7.6 square miles (19.68 kmē) of it is water, it is the sixth largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.
