Payne County is a county located in the United States of Oklahoma. Payne County had an official population of 68190 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 78280, It is Oklahoma's seventh most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 697.13 square miles (1805.56 square kilometre ), of which, 686.34 square miles (1777.61 square kilometre) of it is land and 10.79 square miles (27.95 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 22nd smallest by size in Oklahoma.

In the county the population was distributed as follows: 19.6% under the age of 18, 25.9% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 103.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.6 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 78280, The racial makeup of the county was 66568 White, 3140 Black or African American, 3628 American Indian, 2650 Asian, 37 Native Hawaiian, and 2257 from two or more races.
