Pawtucket City is a one of the Providence County, Rhode Island, located in Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. The population of the city was 72958 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 71765, It is the fourth most populous in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. The city comprises an area of 9 mi˛ (23.31 sq km), of which, 8.74 square miles (22.64 sq km) of it is land and 0.26 square miles (0.67 sq km) of it is water, it is the ninth largest by area in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It is ranks 14 in the size of its inland waterways in Rhode Island.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 72958 people, 30047 households, and 18520 families living in the city. The population density was 8351.2 people per square mile (3224.42/km˛), making its Rhode Island's third most densely populated city. There were 31819 housing units at an average density of 3640.6 per square mile (1405.64/km˛). The average household size was 2.41 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 24.9% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 110.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 116.4 females. The median age is 35.4 years, The median age of males was 34.1 years, for females the median age was 36.6 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 55004 White, 5334 Black or African American, 217 American Indian, 621 Asian, 42 Native Hawaiian, 3899 from two or more races and 7841 Ohter races.
