Pawnee County, Kansas is a county of the United States of Kansas. Pawnee County had an official population of 7233 in 2000. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 6291, making it Kansas's 57th largest county. The county comprises an area of 754.56 square miles (1954.3 kmē), of which, 754.17 square miles (1953.29 kmē) of it is land and 0.38 square miles (0.98 kmē) of it is water, it is the 51st largest by area in the U.S. state of Kansas.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 7233 people, 2739 households, and 1787 families living in the county. The population density was 9.6 people per square mile (3.71/kmē), giving it the 53rd most densely populated county among the Kansas. There were 3114 housing units at an average density of 4.1 per square mile (1.58/kmē). The average household size was 2.31 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 112 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.7 males.
