According to the 2000 census it had a population of 5474 inhabitants. It is the 55th largest by population in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Its area is just over 3.72 square miles (9.63 kmē), of which, 3.7 square miles (9.58 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, it is the 62nd largest in terms of geographical size.
