Patrick County is a county in the United States of Virginia. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 19407 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 18844, giving it the 80th largest population among Virginia's county. The county extends throughout a territory of 485.87 mi˛ (1258.4 square kilometre ), of which, 483.14 square miles (1251.33 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.72 square miles (7.04 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 30th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19407 people, 8141 households, and 5814 families residing in the county. The population density was 40.2 people per square mile (15.52/km˛), it is 24th least densely populated county in Virginia. There were 9823 housing units at an average density of 20.3 per square mile (7.84/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.36 persons, and the average family size was 2.81 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 21.7% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 18844, The racial makeup of the county was 92.25% White, 6.52% Black or African American, 0.23% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.71% from two or more races.
