Parke County is a county located in Indiana, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 17241. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 17152, It is the 16th least populous county in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is spread over 450.1 sq mi (1165.75 square kilometre), of which, 444.77 square miles (1151.95 square kilometre ) of it is land and 5.32 square miles (13.78 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 23rd largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 38.8 people per square mile (14.98/kmē), it is eighth least densely populated county in Indiana. There were 7539 housing units at an average density of 17 per square mile (6.56/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 116.5 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 17152, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 16287 White, 619 Black or African American, 51 American Indian, 32 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 158 from two or more races.
