Paola City is a city located in Miami County, Kansas, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 5011 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 5351, It is the 56th most populous in the U.S. state of Kansas. The city comprises an area of 4.38 square miles (11.34 sq km), of which, 4.07 square miles (10.54 sq km) of it is land and 0.31 square miles (0.8 sq km) of it is water, it is the 51st largest by area in the U.S. state of Kansas. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Kansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5011 residents, 1927 households, and 1245 families in the city. The population density was 1229.9 people per square mile (474.87/kmē), it is Kansas's 235th most densely populated city. There were 2009 housing units at an average density of 493.6 per square mile (190.58/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.08. Age range in the city was well distributed with 28.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older.
