Pamlico County is a county in the United States of North Carolina. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 12934 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 12502, It is the ninth least populous county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The county comprises an area of 566.23 square miles (1466.53 kmē), of which, 336.94 square miles (872.67 kmē) of it is land and 229.29 square miles (593.86 kmē) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in North Carolina.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 12934 people, 5178 households, and 3718 families living in the county. The population density was 38.4 people per square mile (14.83/kmē), it is the tenth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. There were 6781 housing units at an average density of 20.1 per square mile (7.76/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.38 persons, and the average family size was 2.81 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 21.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 28% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 12502, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 9406 White, 2861 Black or African American, 75 American Indian, 54 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 103 from two or more races.
