Oxford County is a county located in Maine, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. The county has a population of 54755 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 56741, It is Maine's seventh most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2175.26 mi˛ (5633.9 sq km), of which, 2078 square miles (5382 sq km) of it is land and 97.26 square miles (251.9 sq km) of it is water, making it Maine's seventh largest county by total area.

The population density was 26.3 people per square mile (10.15/km˛), giving it the 11th most densely populated county among the Maine. There were 32295 housing units at an average density of 15.5 per square mile (5.98/km˛). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.7 females. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 56741, The racial makeup of the county was 97.91% White, 0.37% Black or African American, 0.32% American Indian, 0.48% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.9% from two or more races.
