Owen County is a county in the United States of Indiana. As of 2000 the population was 21786. Its population was estimated at 22375 in July 2008, making it Indiana's 25th smallest county. It covers total area of 387.83 sq mi (1004.48 sq km), of which, 385.18 square miles (997.61 sq km) of it is land and 2.65 square miles (6.86 sq km) of it is water, it is the 56th largest in terms of geographical size.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 21786 people, 8282 households, and 6192 families living in the county. The population density was 56.6 people per square mile (21.85/kmē), it is the 23rd least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Indiana. There were 9853 housing units at an average density of 25.6 per square mile (9.88/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 people, and the average family size was 3 people. The population's age distribution was 26.6% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 22375, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 21912 White, 112 Black or African American, 91 American Indian, 58 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 198 from two or more races.
