Overton County is a county located in Tennessee, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 20118 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20975, It is the 63rd largest county by population in the U.S. state of Tennessee. The county spans an area of 434.82 sq mi (1126.18 sq km), of which, 433.38 square miles (1122.45 sq km) of it is land and 1.43 square miles (3.7 sq km) of it is water, making it Tennessee's 52nd largest county by total area.

The population density was 46.4 people per square mile (17.92/kmē), making its Tennessee's 28th least densely populated county. There were 9168 housing units at an average density of 21.2 per square mile (8.19/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the Overton County, 23% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.4% were 18 to 24, 27.7% were 25 to 44, 25.9% were 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20975, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 20602 White, 155 Black or African American, 62 American Indian, 19 Asian, 11 Native Hawaiian, and 126 from two or more races.
