Ouray County is a United States county located in the United States of Colorado. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 3742 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 4560, It is the 13th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county spans an area of 542.21 square miles (1404.32 sq km), of which, 540.47 square miles (1399.81 sq km) of it is land and 1.74 square miles (4.51 sq km) of it is water, making it Colorado's sixth smallest county by total area.

The population density was 6.9 people per square mile (2.66/kmē), it is the 36th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Colorado. There were 2146 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1.54/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.36 persons, and the average family size was 2.77 persons. The population's age distribution was 22.5% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 34.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.8 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 4560, The racial makeup of the county was 97.08% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.86% American Indian, 0.29% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.62% from two or more races.
