Ouachita County, Arkansas is a county located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. It is home to over 28790 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 25770, It is Arkansas's 25th most populous county. Its area is just over 739.63 sq mi (1915.63 sq km), of which, 732.45 square miles (1897.04 sq km) of it is land and 7.18 square miles (18.6 sq km) of it is water, it is the 25th largest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

The population density was 39.3 people per square mile (15.17/kmē), making it the 26th most densely populated county in Arkansas. There were 13450 housing units at an average density of 18.4 per square mile (7.1/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.99. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.9% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 111.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 117.6 females. Its population was estimated at 25770 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 58.47% White, 39.62% Black or African American, 0.36% American Indian, 0.39% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.13% from two or more races.
