Ottertail City is a United States city located in the Otter Tail County, Minnesota, United States. The population of the city was 451 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 533, making it Minnesota's 506th largest. It is spread over 5.14 sq mi (13.31 kmē), of which, 4.39 square miles (11.37 kmē ) of it is land and 0.75 square miles (1.94 kmē) of it is water, it is the 147th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 451 people, 190 households, and 134 families residing in the city. The population density was 102.7 people per square mile (39.65/kmē), making it the 96th least densely populated city in Minnesota. There were 323 housing units at an average density of 73.6 per square mile (28.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons.
