Oscoda County is a county located in Michigan, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. It is home to over 9418 people (2000 census). In July 2008, its estimated population was 8836, It is the sixth least populous county in the U.S. state of Michigan. It has total area of 571.57 square miles (1480.36 sq km), of which, 565 square miles (1463.34 sq km) of it is land and 6.57 square miles (17.02 sq km) of it is water, making it the 14th smallest by size in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9418 people in the county, organized into 3921 households, and 2719 families living in the county. The population density was 16.7 people per square mile (6.45/kmē), making it the tenth least densely populated county in Michigan. There were 8690 housing units at an average density of 15.4 per square mile (5.95/kmē). The average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.85 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.3% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 28% from 45 to 64, and 20.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 8836, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 8634 White, 10 Black or African American, 72 American Indian, 8 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 111 from two or more races.
