Orange County, New York is a county located in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. The county has a population of 341367 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 379647, It is 12th most populous county in New York. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 838.55 mi˛ (2171.83 sq km), of which, 816.34 square miles (2114.31 sq km) of it is land and 22.21 square miles (57.52 sq km) of it is water, it is the 29th largest by area in the U.S. state of New York.

The population density was 418.2 people per square mile (161.47/km˛), it would be the 16th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of New York. There were 122754 housing units at an average density of 150.4 per square mile (58.07/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.85 persons, and the average family size was 3.35 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 29% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.5 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 379647, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 320950 White, 40693 Black or African American, 1784 American Indian, 9120 Asian, 232 Native Hawaiian, and 6868 from two or more races.
