Olyphant Borough is a borough located in the Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population of borough in 2000 stood at 4978 as per the Census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 4956, It is the 283rd most populous in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The borough comprises an area of 5.44 mi˛ (14.09 square kilometre), of which, 5.38 square miles (13.93 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 96th largest by total area in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4978 people in the borough, organized into 2197 households, and 1350 families living in the borough. The population density was 925.3 people per square mile (357.26/km˛), giving it the 418th least densely populated borough among the Pennsylvania. There were 2381 housing units at an average density of 442.6 per square mile (170.89/km˛). The average household size was 2.26 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. Age range in the borough was well distributed with 20.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.5 males.
