Old Tappan Borough is a United States borough located in the Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. Old Tappan Borough had an official population of 5482 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 6029, It is the 270th largest in terms of population. The borough comprises an area of 4.08 mi˛ (10.57 sq km), of which, 3.23 square miles (8.37 sq km) of it is land and 0.85 square miles (2.2 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 136th largest by total area in New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5482 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 1697.4 people per square mile (655.37/km˛), making its New Jersey's 136th least densely populated borough.
