Okmulgee County is one of the 77 county of Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 39685 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 39219, It is the 26th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Its area is just over 702.32 mi˛ (1819 sq km), of which, 696.97 square miles (1805.14 sq km) of it is land and 5.34 square miles (13.83 sq km) of it is water, it is the 23rd smallest by area in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.

The population density was 56.9 people per square mile (21.97/km˛), it is Oklahoma's 16th most densely populated county. There were 17316 housing units at an average density of 24.8 per square mile (9.58/km˛). The average household size was 2.53 people, and the average family size was 3.06 people. In the county Age distribution was 26.9% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 110.2 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 39219, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 69.92% White, 9.19% Black or African American, 13.9% American Indian, 0.25% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 6.72% from two or more races.
