As of the census of 2000, there were 3450654 people in the state, organized into 1342293 households, and 921750 families residing in the state. The population density was 50.3 people per square mile (19.42/km˛), giving it the 16th least densely populated state among the United States. There were 1514400 housing units at an average density of 22.1 per square mile (8.53/km˛). The average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the state Age distribution was 25.9% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.6 females. The median age is 35.5 years, the median age of male residents at 33.9 and the median age of female residents at 36.9. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the state is 3450654, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 2628434 White, 260968 Black or African American, 273230 American Indian, 46767 Asian, 2372 Native Hawaiian, 155985 from two or more races and 82898 Ohter races.
The median income for a household in the state was $33400, it is United States's sixth poorest state by median household income. The median income for a family in the state was $40709, it is seventh poorest state by median family income in United States. The per capita income for the state was $17646, it is the eighth poorest state in terms of per capita income. The median income was $19960, Median income for males is $24718, compared with $15314 for females. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Oklahoma in 2008 was $146.4 billion, making it the 29th highest state by gross domestic product in United States. The states per capita personal income in 2008 was $29359.
In 2000, 930865 pupils and students, of which 470612 are male and 460253 are female, 26.98% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, total enrollment of student are in, 60100 nursery or pri school, 50220 kindergarten, 412966 elementary school, 204317 high school and 203262 College graduate school.
