Okeechobee County, Florida is a county of the United States of Florida. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 35910 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 40359, It is the 44th most populous county in the U.S. state of Florida. It has total area of 891.57 sq mi (2309.16 kmē), of which, 773.94 square miles (2004.5 kmē) of it is land and 117.63 square miles (304.66 kmē) of it is water, it is the 29th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 46.4 people per square mile (17.92/kmē), giving it the 21st least densely populated county among the Florida. There were 15504 housing units at an average density of 20 per square mile (7.72/kmē). The average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 115.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.2 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 40359, The racial makeup of the county was 88.18% White, 8.48% Black or African American, 1.04% American Indian, 1.12% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.13% from two or more races.
