Okaloosa County is a one of the county from Florida's 67 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The county has a population of 170498 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 179693, giving it the 26th largest population among Florida's county. The county encompasses an area of 1082 sq mi (2802.37 sq km ), of which, 935.63 square miles (2423.27 sq km) of it is land and 146.37 square miles (379.1 sq km) of it is water, it is the 20th largest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

The population density was 182.2 people per square mile (70.35/kmē), making it the 29th most densely populated county in Florida. There were 78593 housing units at an average density of 84 per square mile (32.43/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 people, and the average family size was 2.94 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 24.7% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 179693, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 83.36% White, 9.91% Black or African American, 0.69% American Indian, 2.77% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, and 3.1% from two or more races.
