Ohio County is a county located in West Virginia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 47427 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 44106, It is 13th most populous county in West Virginia. The county has a total area of 108.86 mi˛ (281.95 square kilometre), of which, 106.18 square miles (275 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.68 square miles (6.94 square kilometre) of it is water, making it West Virginia's third smallest county by total area.

The population density was 446.7 people per square mile (172.47/km˛), it is West Virginia's most densely populated county. There were 22166 housing units at an average density of 208.8 per square mile (80.62/km˛). The average household size was 2.27 people, and the average family size was 2.91 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 21.3% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 113.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 119 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 44106, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 41370 White, 1699 Black or African American, 46 American Indian, 499 Asian, 11 Native Hawaiian, and 481 from two or more races.
