Oglethorpe City is a city located in the Macon County, Georgia, United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 1200 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 1113, making it Georgia's 314th largest. The city has a total area of 2.06 sq mi (5.34 square kilometre), of which, 2.03 square miles (5.26 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 361st largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1200 people in the city, organized into 481 households, and 321 families residing in the city. The population density was 590.3 people per square mile (227.92/kmē), it is Georgia's 287th most densely populated city. There were 566 housing units at an average density of 278.8 per square mile (107.65/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons.
